Special Services

Maundy Thursday
On Thursday evening during Holy Week we meet in the sanctuary to remember and celebrate Jesus' Last Supper with his disciples in the Upper Room. After sharing in the Sacrament of Holy Communion, we observe the ancient office of Tennebrae. Lay people seated around the communion table read the scriptural accounts of the events of Holy Week, with each reading followed by the extinguishing of a candle until the entire sanctuary is in darkness. Then the Christ Candle is lit, symbolizing the hope of the resurrection.

Christmas Service

Christmas Eve
In our Candlelight Service On Christmas Eve we gather for a service of lesson and carols. After the final reading from the Prologue of the Gospel of John, we pass the flame of the Christ Candle from our Advent Wreath throughout the congregation.

Then, with the sanctuary aglow in light, we join in singing "Silent Night." This service is especially powerful and memorable for children of all ages.

Note, this year our service will be held at 3:00 PM.

Easter Sunrise Service

Easter Services
Our Easter Sunday 11:00 worship service, takes place in a sanctuary adorned with lilies and daffodils and includes singing the triumphant hymns of the resurrection.

In addition to our regular service, the United Parishes of Southborough holds a sunrise service by the lake side at Hopkinton State Park. This service, in which representatives from every church in Southborough participate, includes an Easter message by our Pastor. Following this inspirational gathering we meet at our church for coffee, refreshments, and fellowship.

United Parishes Special Services
The United Parishes of Southborough holds an annual ecumenical Thanksgiving service on the Tuesday evening before Thanksgiving. The location rotates among the churches, with the host church leading the worship in which representatives from the other churches participate.

During Lent the United Parishes of Southborough offers an annual Lenten series. The evening begins with worship at the host church, followed by a potluck or catered supper and then a program that is usually led by one of the Pastors.
